The Hyvair HMD-315-B2KS is an orbital disc hydraulic motor in the HMD Series. Orbital motors convert hydraulic flow into low speed, high torque shaft rotation, which lets them drive heavy loads without a gearbox.
This is a 315 cc/rev motor with a listed displacement of 19.62 in3/rev. It is rated for 19.8 gpm of flow and a maximum speed of 230 rpm. Maximum torque is 7700 in-lb continuous and 9133 in-lb intermittent. Maximum pressure is 2900 psi continuous and 3480 psi intermittent. Rated output is 22.8 hp.
Continuous ratings describe steady operation. Intermittent ratings cover short peaks, such as starting a heavy load, and should not be the normal working point.
The motor mounts on an SAE A 2-bolt flange with a 3.25 in pilot. The shaft is a 1 in straight keyed shaft with a 1/4 in key. Ports are 7/8-14 UNF O-ring ports, which seal with an O-ring on the fitting.
Speed follows flow, and torque follows pressure. With this displacement the motor runs slowly and delivers high torque. Check that flow to the motor stays within 19.8 gpm and that the relief setting holds normal working pressure within the 2900 psi continuous rating. Make sure the driven shaft and coupling can carry the torque.
