The Hyvair GT1.4 is a gear pump for small hydraulic power units, rated at 1.4 gpm. It is listed with our small power units and gear pumps, and it fits compact, low-flow circuits and pump replacement on small power packs.
In an external gear pump, two meshing gears turn inside a close-fitting housing. Oil fills the spaces between the gear teeth at the inlet, travels around the outside of the gears and is pushed out at the outlet where the teeth come back into mesh. Each revolution moves a fixed volume of oil, so this is a fixed displacement pump and its flow follows the speed of the motor driving it.
Gear pumps have few moving parts and a compact shape, which is why small power units use them so often. A gear pump does not limit pressure on its own. The circuit needs a relief valve to set maximum pressure and protect the pump, the motor and the rest of the system.
